Rootstock is Bitcoin's Smart Contract platform, powered by a forked version of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) known as the Rootstock Virtual Machine (RVM). This ensures compatibility with Ethereum Smart Contracts and associated tools. The native currency, Smart Bitcoin (RBTC), is used for transaction gas fees and is pegged 1:1 with Bitcoin, maintaining a supply of 21 million RBTC. A Powpeg mechanism facilitates the transfer of bitcoins between the Bitcoin and Rootstock blockchains.
